What Is Unicity Balance?

Balance is a dietary supplement made by the company Unicity. Unicity is an international multi-level marketing company. It’s also available to purchase on Amazon and through the Unicity website.

This supplement is an individually packaged powder mix that you mix with water. The website advises: for best results, take 1-2 times daily, before or with meals. Vigorously mix each stick pack with 8-10 oz (240-300 mL) of water and drink immediately.

Health Claims Made By Unicity Balance

According to its website, Unicity Balance is a pre-meal drink with a proprietary fiber matrix that includes bioactive plant compounds, polysaccharides, and micronutrients. The fiber matrix is designed to help ease some of the impact excess dietary carbohydrates and cholesterol can have on the body. Balance is also formulated to provide essential vitamins, minerals and soluble fibers to help curb your appetite.

Unicity claims that Balance is ideal for:

  • Adults wanting to increase their fiber intake
  • Individuals interested in maintaining healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels
  • Those looking to support their weight-management efforts

The Unicity website claims that the benefits of Balance include:

  • Helps curb appetite between meals
  • Aids in reducing the amount of dietary cholesterol that’s absorbed into the bloodstream
  • Helps reduce carbohydrate absorption in the body
  • Supports normal, healthy blood glucose levels
  • Supports healthy weight management
  • Supports time-based eating and other intermittent fasting methods

Unicity Balance Supplement Facts

Alright, let’s take a look at what’s actually in this powdered drink mix dietary supplement.

Biosphere Fiber Proprietary Formula

According to the Unicity Balance fact sheet: Biosphere is a unique blend that includes five different sources of fiber. These fibers help support cholesterol levels and slow the conversion of high-glycemic carbohydrates into blood glucose.

Alright, let’s take a look further. The blend of fibers in this proprietary formula are guar gum, locust bean gum, citrus pectin, oat fiber, and beta-glucan for a total of 2,228 mg.

The thing with proprietary blends is that it doesn’t differentiate how much of each ingredient is in the total 2,228 mg of this Biosphere Fiber Proprietary Formula. Is it mostly guar gum? With just a tiny bit of beta glucan? Or a more even distribution? It remains unknown.

Regardless, it appears that this proprietary blend contributes approximately half, or 2 grams, of the 4 total grams of soluble fiber that’s found in this supplement packet.

Soluble fiber is well researched for its ability to lower glucose and cholesterol levels. In fact, a recent systematic review found that soluble fiber significantly reduced fasting glucose and insulin levels, HOMA-IR, and hemoglobin A1c levels in those with type 2 diabetes. It also lowered body mass index (BMI) in those with type 2 diabetes compared to the control group.

Another recent meta-analysis found that soluble fiber supplementation significantly reduced total cholesterol, LDL (aka “bad”) cholesterol, and triglycerides.

Unicity 7x

The next ingredient is called Unicity 7x. According to the Unicity Balance fact sheet: Unicity 7x is a specialized blend of plant-derived polysaccharides, also known as viscous fibers. Viscous, soluble fibers form a thick gel when mixed with water and as they move through the digestive tract. The gel-like consistency helps slow the emptying of your stomach, which results in prolonged satiety.

This proprietary blend is 1,404 mg of plant-derived polysaccharides and gum arabic.

Polysaccharides are simply long-chain carbohydrates that are abundantly found in plants and animals. Starch and fiber are two examples of polysaccharides that naturally occur in food sources such as rice, corn, and potatoes.

Gum arabic is a natural gum occurring in nature. It’s a source of dietary fiber and is commonly used in the food industry as an emulsifier, stabilizer and thickening agent.

It’s well known that fiber can help to slow down gastric emptying and create a feeling of fullness and satiety.

Bios Cardio Matrix

The next ingredient is something called Bios Cardio Matrix. According to the Unicity Balance fact sheet: Bios Cardio Matrix is a blend of plant extracts and phytosterols that supports the body’s cholesterol absorption process. The blend can help limit the absorption of dietary cholesterol.

This Bios Cardio Matrix is a blend of 418.5 mg phytosterols and policosanol (derived from sugar cane extract).

Phytosterols, which are plant sterols and stanols, are naturally occurring compounds in plants. They have been researched for their ability to lower cholesterol levels and have been found to significantly decrease total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

A recent review article suggests that 3 grams of phytosterols per day is needed to achieve these cholesterol-lowering benefits. The Unicity Balance dietary supplement falls well short of being able to deliver this amount.

While it’s not known exactly how much policosanol is in this proprietary blend, one research study found that 20 mg per day of policosanol was effective at lowering cholesterol levels.

Bios Vitamin Complex

The final ingredient is this Bios Vitamin Complex. According to the website, the Bios Vitamin Complex is a unique blend that supports healthy metabolism. This blend is designed to aid in proper digestion and optimize the conversion of food to fuel.

The vitamin complex is comprised of:

  • Vitamin A (Beta-Carotene) 104 mcg RAE
  • Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) 45 mg
  • Vitamin E (D-alpha Tocopheryl Acetate) 13 mg
  • Thiamin 2 mg
  • Riboflavin 2 mg
  • Niacin (Niacinamide) 26 mg
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCL) 7 mg
  • Folic Acid 367 mcg DFE
  • Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) 25 mcg
  • Biotin 20 mcg
  • Calcium (Calcium Carbonate) 60 mg
  • Zinc (Zinc Gluconate) 2.3 mg
  • Chromium 100 mcg

This vitamin complex is essentially a multivitamin, providing a blend of various vitamins and minerals. This can be helpful for some people to help fill nutritional gaps, depending on what their usual diet pattern looks like.

Alright, now that we’ve looked at what’s in this supplement, let’s get into the pros and cons of it.

Pros of Unicity Balance

  • Third Party Tested. The supplement industry is not regulated in the same way that the food industry is. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate or approve of any dietary supplements, their labeling, or health claims. It’s not uncommon to find supplements on the market that don’t actually have what they’re advertising inside their supplements. Thankfully, Unicity Balance dietary supplements are NSF third party tested for purity and quality.

  • Convenient. For someone who is looking for a supplement that’s easy to incorporate into their day, these individually packaged supplements make it convenient to take on-the-go or travel with.

  • Easy to mix. Since it’s a powder form, there is no need to swallow pills, and it may be an easy way to get these nutrients into your daily routine.

  • Evidence Based. While some supplements make outlandish claims in regards to what their supplements can do, the ingredients in Unicity Balance do appear to have research studies that back up its’ health claims.

Cons of Unicity Balance

  • Powder Form. I know this was a pro, but it may be a con for you if you prefer to just take a pill form instead.

  • Potential Digestive Upset. Increasing fiber intake may lead to digestive discomfort for some people. This is usually short-term but may persist for some individuals. Additionally, gums may cause digestive issues for some people as well.

  • Multi-Level Marketing. Unicity is a direct-sales company that uses multi-level marketing to promote their products. This may not be a con for you, however, it’s something to be aware of in case this doesn’t align with your values.

  • Cost. This is absolutely the biggest con in my opinion. To purchase Unicity Balance, either through their website with a “referral” or through Amazon, it will cost you $64 USD for 30 individual serving packets. This will last you 15 to 30 days depending on whether you take 1 or 2 doses daily per manufacturer instructions. Finding lower cost alternatives is remarkably easy and I’ll highlight some options below.

Should I Take Unicity Balance?

Maybe? Maybe not? The answer will depend entirely on you as an individual and your unique needs.

The ingredients in Unicity Balance do seem to be supported by research to be able to reduce cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and promote weight loss.

With that said, the ingredients in Unicity Balance are essentially fiber and a multivitamin (not even a really great multivitamin to be honest either). These are two things that you can get from food and/or significantly more affordable supplement options.

I’m not one to tell you where to spend your money, so if the convenience factor of something like Unicity Balance aligns with what you want to spend your money on, then go for it.

But, if you’re looking for similar ingredients at a fraction of the cost, you could consider products such as these:

infographic comparing unicity balance to more affordable alternatives.

Purchasing the products above will cost you approximately half of what you’d spend on the Unicity Balance supplement.

Additionally, you can easily replace the fiber supplement with real food sources of fiber. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes are all great sources of fiber.

The Bottom Line

Balance is a dietary supplement made by the company Unicity. It’s a powder that’s packaged in a single-serve, convenient packet. Unicity Balance contains a mixture of fibers and various vitamins and minerals.

Research does support that the ingredients found within Unicity Balance can help with lowering cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and weight loss.

That said, this product is essentially an overpriced combination of fiber and a multivitamin. If you feel your health could benefit from the ingredients in this product, you could find them for a much lower price tag from other brands. For example, this fiber supplement and this multivitamin combination will cost you half of the price tag of Unicity Balance.

You should always discuss with your healthcare provider before starting any new dietary supplements.

  1. Thanks for confirming what I was already thinking….using a fiber powder at a fraction of the cost. But now I’ll include a multi vitamin as well.

    1. The cost for a 30 day supply of Unicity products have increased considerably since this review of the product; it’s now between $100 – $150, depending on where it’s purchased. I am so glad to have ran across this review with in-depth details of what is in the Unicity products. I won’t be purchasing it again. I’ll stick to multivitamins and fiber from now on and save myself a lot of money! Thank you for your unbiased review!

  2. hi. Thank you for breaking this down. I do not feel like $219.00 a month is a good way to spend money. I was going to do some research myself but so glad i found your page. My one question is your comparison said 5 capsules is that one time a day?

    1. It could be! Unicity has 4 grams of fiber per serving, so if your fiber gummies contain about that amount, it may be a comparable swap.

  3. So if we take 5 multivitamin and we get the 60 count it will only last 12 days. am I understanding this? I obviously don’t want to take too many vitamins lol.

    1. Hi Dina, sorry this is rather confusing on my part and I’m going to adjust the post to be more clear. If you choose the alternate multivitamin, you’d only take 1 capsule daily. The 60 count would last you 60 days.

  4. Great article, so glad I read it. Saved me some research😊. Would you recommend taking the multivitamin along side the fibre supplement?

    1. If you feel you can benefit from the two of them, they can be taken at the same time). Hope this helps!

  5. Thank you; that was very helpful. Regarding the cost comparison, yes, it is understandable. But the simplicity of pouring a small powder pack into a bottle of water, shaking, and drinking—hmm! Sounds rather simple to me, in my opinion.

    1. Yes, Nikita, I acknowledge the convenience factor of this supplement in my “Pros” section. If that benefit outweighs the potential cons, such as the price, then maybe this is a great option for you.

    1. Hi B, individual results would vary. It would depend on several factors such as your medical history, current diet and lifestyle, etc.

  6. I started this program and let me tell you, there is a lot of caffeine in this product. I was on it for two days, the second day I was up all night and my heart was racing terribly. It really scared me. I’m in the process of returning it!!

    1. Has anyone had the experience of the Yerba tea causing dizziness? Currently doing the program & trying to determine if that’s the culprit for my dizziness💔

  7. Thank you for this article, Alyssa. I am a registered dietitian doing diabetes education, and my patient today said she has stopped taking Monjouro and is taking this instead. I told her I would look into it and talk to her about it in my next session with her. Your article was very clear and will help me explain the pros and cons of it to my patient. Thanks!

    1. Hi Vanessa, I’m so glad it was helpful for you! As dietitians, it can be tough navigating the world of endless supplements nowadays.

    1. I don’t currently have one but I have received requests for one on Unimate. So I may have one in the future!

  8. My daughter is trying to get me on board with Unicity. I always research stuff and am very grateful for your indepth article. I’m going to be sharing it. Thank you.

    1. Has anyone had the experience of the Yerba tea causing dizziness? Currently doing the program & trying to determine if that’s the culprit for my dizziness💔

  9. I have friends selling this stuff. They push it helped them come off all their medications. We tried it and was not happy with product.

  10. Do you have an alternative option for a multi-vitamin? The one you linked does not appear to be available in Canada. Also can you provide a reputable fibre powder to use?

    Thank you

  11. Thank you for taking the time to write your article. While most of the information is accurate, I have to disagree with your comparison of Metamucil with balance, it apple to oranges and you definitely get what you pay for ( simple fiber for regularity vs patented fiber matrix for metabolic support) not to mention the artificial flavors, aspartame, maltodextrin and yellow 6 in Metamucil. Please do more research, for example even chatgpt can confirm, go and ask: Can you compare Metamucil vs unicity balance, which is better in terms of quality and effectiveness ? You will be surprised with its findings.

    1. Hi Miguel, you’re right, you cannot compare Unicity Balance to Metamucil alone. Unicity Balance is a combo of fiber and a multivitamin – not strictly fiber. You can combine a fiber supplement with a quality multivitamin to get similar effects. Here’s another fiber supplement that does not contain any artificial sweeteners or colors that’s still a more cost effective option for people looking for alternatives.

  12. Do you have any recommendations to replace the Unimate drink? I thought it helped curb food cravings and provided some energy as well. Thank You.

    1. yerba mate does. go to atlantic spice company site and check it out. I am hoping it works for me. I have fibromyalgia and it’s hard to lose weight with it. Yerba mate is used in unicity products too

  13. I saw that yerba mate is a huge think in the unicity diet powders because with exercise it helps break down fat and is great for energy due to it’s caffeine content. I bought 3 pounds of yerba mate for less than $40. Much cheaper than unicity

  14. I was looking up the metamucil that you suggested but I’m in a quandary because I can either get the sugar free version which contains aspartame or the sugar version for 80 calories a serving plus it contains sucralose! I’m not sure that’s a good product to take??

  15. Thanks for the info. I was about to purchase this myself. So when would a good time be to take the fiber and multivitamin? Cause with the other product you’re not able to eat breakfast. I normally do a no sugar protein shake after a run in the mornings. I think waiting till noon is way too long to wait to eat.

  16. I appreciate the honest review. It was very helpful. I am currently drinking unicities to Yerba mate tea twice a day and taking balance fiber before dinner. I have already lost 10 lb in 2 weeks. But in addition to that I am also intermittent fasting 16 hours a day and have changed my diet to a healthier diet. I believe the combination of all the changes I have made is leading to the weight loss and lower blood pressure. Thank you for your research and honest review.

  17. Thank you for your in depth article. I purchased a box of this ill finish but won’t purchase again. I’ll try find something else. Cost and postage is ridiculous here is Australia. I ordered this for the cholesterol and glucose reasons.
