PCOS Dietitian’s Review: Peach Perfect Inositol Multivitamin

Have you heard of the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin? Supplements are a hot topic in the PCOS community and this one has been gaining popularity recently on social media. But can it really improve your PCOS symptoms?

As a registered dietitian who has PCOS, my goal is to help you cut through the BS and get the information you need. 

In this blog post, I’ll discuss what’s actually in this multivitamin, the pros and cons of it, and my honest review of whether the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin is worth the hype.

What Is The Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin?

Happy Hormones Inositol Multivitamin is a dietary supplement made by the US-based company Peach Perfect. It’s a blend of essential nutrients and claims to be an “all-in-one hormone multivitamin”. 

The recommended dose is four capsules daily. The company recommends that you should take it for a minimum of two months to see the full effect.

Happy Hormones Inositol Multivitamin claims that this is for you if you:

  • Want to have regular periods
  • Want to prevent or remove excess body hair from PCOS
  • Want to become fertile
  • Want to improve your PCOS weight gain and improve insulin levels

Let’s take a look at what’s actually in this Inositol Multivitamin supplement.

Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin Supplement Facts

Here’s what’s inside the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin: 

1. Myo-Inositol and D-Chiro Inositol

Inositol is the most well-studied supplement for PCOS. Honestly, it has some pretty impressive results too. 

The Peach Perfect Inositol Multivitamin contains a blend of 2000 mg myo-inositol and 50 mg of d-chiro inositol, which is the same 40:1 ratio that is found in our body’s tissues.

Inositol can help: 

  • Improve insulin sensitivity
  • Decrease body weight and BMI
  • Reduce inflammation  
  • Lower high cholesterol levels
  • Reduce carbohydrate cravings
  • Lower testosterone levels, which can be contributing to hirsutism and hair loss (1)
  • Restore ovulation and improve irregular periods (2)
  • Increase fertility by improving egg quality, pregnancy rates, and IVF outcomes (3)
  • Decrease the risk of gestational diabetes during pregnancy (4)
  • Improve thyroid function in hypothyroidism (5)

Myo-inositol alone can have positive effects on PCOS symptoms too. However, research seems to favor the myo-inositol plus d-chiro inositol blend, especially if weight loss is one of your goals (6).

The recommended dosage of inositol is typically 2,000 mg myo-inositol plus 50 mg d-chiro-inositol twice per day, for a total of 4000mg myoinositol and 100mg d-chiro-inositol. So the amount used in this supplement may provide some benefit, but double the dosage may yield better results according to research.

2. Omega 3 Powder 300 mg

Omega 3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat. Research continues to find that omega 3’s have strong anti-inflammatory effects and positively impact hormone levels like insulin and luteinizing hormone (LH). 

There are three main types of omega 3 fatty acids: ALA, DHA, and EPA. The Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin doesn’t specify which type of omega 3 fatty acids are used in their product. I found this rather strange, since most companies do list out which type of omega 3s are in their products. 

I did reach out to them using their online contact form twice to try to clarify this with no response. 

There’s a lot of great research on fish oil and PCOS. Fish oil typically contains two specific types of omega 3’s: EPA & DHA. These research studies also used much higher doses around 2,000 mg daily. A recent analytical review recommended that if you’re going to supplement with fish oil for PCOS, you should be using a supplement that has an EPA & DHA combination of at least 500 mg (7). 

There’s only 300mg of omega 3’s in this supplement and we don’t even know if it’s the recommended type of omega 3 fatty acids. In my opinion, it’s likely not enough to see any substantial value and is probably just a “fluff ingredient” to make this Inositol Multivitamin seem like a better product. 

3. Magnesium Glycinate 200 mg

Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a big role in our overall health. For unclear reasons, many women with PCOS tend to have lower levels of magnesium than those who don’t have PCOS (8).

In terms of benefits for PCOS, magnesium has the ability to: 

  • Reduce insulin resistance
  • Lower inflammation 
  • Decrease testosterone levels
  • Lessen anxiety and stress levels
  • Improve sleep quality
  • Improve PMS symptoms

This Inositol Multivitamin contains 200 mg of magnesium glycinate, which is actually one of the best forms of magnesium for PCOS. It’s easily absorbed and doesn’t tend to affect the digestive system like other forms of magnesium can. 

Most research studies that look at the effects of magnesium supplementation used a dose of 200 to 600 mg of magnesium. Similar to inositol, the amount in the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin falls within the lower end of the typical dosage range.

4. Zinc Citrate 10 mg

Zinc is a trace mineral that also functions as an antioxidant. Some research has found that women with PCOS are at a higher risk of having a zinc deficiency. 

In terms of common symptoms of PCOS, zinc may help: 

  • Lower insulin resistance (9)
  • Reduce inflammation and oxidative stress
  • Decrease cholesterol levels
  • Reduce symptoms of high androgen levels like hirsutism (aka excess facial hair or body hair), hair loss, and acne (10)
  • Promote regular ovulation 
  • Improve fertility and egg quality

Peach Perfect’s Inositol Multivitamin contains 10 mg of zinc citrate. This form of zinc is easily absorbed by the body. It’s important to note that many of the research studies that found beneficial effects of zinc on common PCOS symptoms used a dose of 50 mg of zinc per day, which is 5 times the amount that’s found in this PCOS Multivitamin. Granted, these research studies were usually short-term studies. 

The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for zinc is 8 mg for women. For pregnancy and breastfeeding, 11-12 mg of zinc is recommended. It’s difficult to get too much zinc from food sources, but it is definitely possible to get too much from zinc supplements. 

Taking high doses of zinc for a long period of time can cause a copper deficiency, weakened immune system, and digestive issues like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

5. Vitamin D3 1000 IU

The final nutrient that’s in the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin is vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is particularly common in PCOS. In fact, 67-85% of women with PCOS are vitamin D deficient according to one study

Considering vitamin D is actually a hormone, it makes sense that many people with PCOS are deficient in this vitamin, which can contribute to the hormone imbalances that are seen with PCOS.

Research has shown that having optimal levels of vitamin D can: 

  • Improve menstrual cycle regulation
  • Increase ovulation rates and the amount of mature follicles
  • Decrease glucose and insulin levels
  • Lower inflammation
  • Decrease testosterone levels (11)

The Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin contains 1,000 IU (international units) of vitamin D3, which is a well-absorbed form of vitamin D. Honestly, this is a low dose of vitamin D though and may not be optimal for everyone’s needs, especially if you’re deficient. 

Some common vitamin D doses I’ve seen recommended by research studies and medical doctors for those with PCOS range from 2,000 IU daily to 50,000 IU once per week. Your doctor can screen you for vitamin D deficiency with a simple blood test and advise you on supplementation if necessary. 

Pros of Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin

  • Third Party Tested. The supplement industry isn’t regulated like foods and drugs are. The FDA does not regulate or approve of any dietary supplements, their labeling, or health claims. It’s not uncommon to find supplements on the market that don’t actually have what they’re advertising inside their supplements. Peach Perfect does claim their supplements, including the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin, are third party tested for purity and quality. Although, I could not find any information on which company actually conducts the third party testing, nor did the company respond to my inquiry looking for copies of the third party testing reports. 

  • Well Researched Nutrients. It actually uses good nutrients in this dietary supplement that do have research to support their use.

  • Uses Good Nutrient Forms. The Happy Hormones Inositol Multivitamin does utilize forms of vitamins and minerals in their supplement that are easily absorbed and typically well tolerated. 

  • Potential One-And-Done Purchase. If this is the right option for you, it can be a cost-effective, one-and-done supplement purchase, rather than purchasing separate supplements that come in varying quantities. 

While the pros seem pretty good, there’s definitely some worthwhile cons or facts that you should consider before purchasing this PCOS Multivitamin.

Cons of Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin

  • Possibly Unnecessary. While the marketing is appealing to almost any symptom of PCOS you may be struggling with, you may not need all of these nutrients in the doses they’re being provided. Multivitamins are often regarded as safe and natural, but excessive intake of certain nutrients can actually be toxic and dangerous.

  • Not Vegetarian. This supplement may not be suitable for those who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. It uses a gelatin capsule, which is usually made from animal byproducts. The omega 3s may also contain fish oil.

  • Probably Inadequate Dosage. For most of the nutrients in the Happy Hormones Inositol Multivitamin, the doses provided are not therapeutic doses and may not provide the benefits that research supports.

  • Cost. If this Peach Perfect Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin has nutrients in it that you don’t need to supplement with, it may be significantly more expensive than if you were to purchase the individual nutrients that you actually need in supplement form. 

  • Four Capsules Serving Size. The serving size is 4 capsules daily. Some people complain about the size of the capsules too. This may not be a con to you, but it’s just something to be aware of if you’re trying to decrease your daily pill load or if you struggle with swallowing pills.

  • Customer Service. There are multiple reviews and comments reporting very poor customer service. Since I had questions about the types of omega 3 fatty acids that are in the product and about their third party testing practices, I reached out to Peach Perfect twice via their online contact form without a reply. This supplement also just gives me sketchy vibes since you can find basically the same looking supplement available online like this one or this one.

Should I Take The Peach Perfect Happy Hormones Inositol Multivitamin?

Maybe. Maybe not. Unfortunately, I don’t have a straight answer for you. The answer is going to entirely depend on you and your unique needs. PCOS is a unique and complex endocrine disorder that presents differently in different people. 

While there is research to support each of the ingredients in this supplement, research studies usually used higher doses than what’s in this supplement. 

Think of this supplement like baking a cake with just a spoonful of flour, a drop of vanilla, and half an egg. The ingredients are right, but you probably don’t have enough of anything to actually make the cake rise or taste good.

If I’m ever recommending any of the ingredients in this Inositol Multivitamin to be taken as standalone dietary supplements, I’m almost always recommending higher doses…because that’s what the research really supports.

If you have determined that these nutrients are right for you, this product may be a good option since it does seem to have high quality ingredients and nutrient forms. It’s just questionable whether you’d see significant benefits since there’s low amounts of all the ingredients. 

Most people are probably better off choosing one dietary supplement and taking the therapeutic dosage to truly see if it works for them. This would also be a more cost effective option too.

Peach Perfect Inositol Multivitamin Alternatives

If you have decided that you want to try any of the ingredients that’s found in the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin, these are the brands and therapeutic doses I typically gravitate towards recommending.

  • Inositol: Ovasitol by Theralogix. Two scoops of the tasteless inositol powder daily provides the therapeutic dose: 4000mg myoinositol and 100 mg d-chiro inositol. Inositol is my top supplement recommendation for most people. PRC 202702 saves you 15% off your order, making this significantly more cost effective per serving than Peach Perfect.
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids: ProOmega. Two softgels contain the therapeutic dosage of fish oil, particularly DHA and EPA. There’s also an option that contains 1000 IU vitamin D3:  ProOmega-D.
  • Magnesium Glycinate: Pure Encapsulations.  
  • Zinc: Pure Encapsulations.

The Bottom Line

Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin is made by the company Peach Perfect. It contains myo-inositol, d-chiro inositol, omega 3 powder, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D. 

The nutrients in the Happy Hormones PCOS Multivitamin all have the potential to benefit certain symptoms of PCOS. The doses of vitamins and minerals in this supplement are either at the lower end of the recommended dosage range or lower than the recommended range based on most research studies. Whether or not you need all of the nutrients in this supplement, and in the doses provided, will vary by individual. I’m inclined to lean towards choosing one dietary supplement and taking the therapeutic dose to see if it works for you rather than throwing your money at this supplement.

Always talk to your healthcare provider before starting any new dietary supplements to determine if it’s a good choice for your unique healthcare needs. 

Supplements will never replace good nutrition and lifestyle changes as the first approach to PCOS management, but it can supplement your efforts.

  1. What do you think of the flo ovarian support pills in comparison? I am currently taking them and thinking of switching to the peach perfect because I’ve heard it’s very good. Would you say that one is better than the other?

    1. Hi Sofia! The only common ingredients that those supplements share is myo-inositol and d-chiro inositol. Otherwise, they’re not equal comparisons.
